Thus I turn to the Iliad, Deiphobus and his brother Helenus lead an attack against a wall the Argives had newly constructed, as part of the siege defences against the Trojans (in case you find this confusing, it is sensible for an army which is besieging an enemy force, to construct their own wall, this not only helps safeguard them from a counter attack, it locks the enemy in, this is normal strategy in siege warfare, the Romans used it against Jerusalem in 69-7AD, Caesar used it to great affect against the Germanic tribes united under Vercingetorix, when he surrounded their fortress and built a defensive wall almost all around it, the Celts could not get out, or get anything in. strangely, fact is stranger than fiction, for it should not be forgotten, that Julius Caesar claimed be descended from Trojan prince of Troy Aeneas) so we must presume that Alcathous had led or participated in an earlier assault on the Argives as it became obvious they were building defences, and that he was slain, during the attack, however, it seems Hector his brother also was amongst the attackers, but as the assault failed, and as the likes of Achilles and others drove off the Trojans, Hector turned and started to retreat, in the mayhem, Hector had no idea his brother was dead, suddenly Athena in the guise of Deiphobas was before him, and entreated him to make a stand, his confidence regained he threw his spear at the advancing Achilles but it missed, as he turned to his brother for another, the apparition had vanished, and he realised he had been deceived, and fate took it course.
