About Amythaon

Amythaon, was the son of Cretheus and Tyro and brother of Pheres and Aeson. Amythaon' name signifies, unutterable, as to be undefinable with mere words, he the father Melampus (melampous), Bais, and Oeolia, and his heirs were referred to as, Amythaides. There is confusion as to who was Amythaon's wife, Idomene and Algaia are mentioned, but sometimes they appear to be the same person. Amythaon and many of his family appear in the story of Pelias, and Jason. Pausanias makes reference to him as being one of several responsible for the restoration of the Olympic Games.
