About Philammon

R. Graves translates this to 'lover of racecourses', while he also renders 'ammon' as sandy; but this at first seemed odd to me, as I would be inclined to 'love of Ammon' if Ammon was the god of the Ammonites, he is likely, Moloch, Molech, Malcam, the bull god they sacrificed children to through fire. However, it is more likely that the Egyptian god Amun, also rendered Ammon was meant. When Alexander the Great, took over Egypt, for they did not resist him, he took the effort to travel the Siwah Oasis, to consult the Oracle of Zeus Ammon, after the consultation the priests accepted him as the living son-sun of Amun, it was from then on, that Alexander was depicted wearing the rams horn helmet. Therefore, Mr Graves got it right, the Greeks of course replaced the Pharaoh's barge with the Sun Chariot, thus the connection to the racecourse, which represented the course of the annual sun. philammon was recorded as the son of Chione by Apollo, but two other mothers are reported by other sources, they included, Leuconoe (daughter of H-Eosphoros,) Philonis (who was either the daughter of Deion or Cleoboea and H-Eosphoros) he himself married a nymph of Mount Parnassus, by whom he had two children, Eumolpus and Thamyis. He was a very talented musician, apparently writing hymns dedicated to the births of Apollo, Leto and Artemis, which were performed at Delphi by a choir of girls, he is also imputed to have been the founder of the Lamean Mysteries, and been one of the Argonauts? Let us consider who his mother was, Leuconoe, was recorded to be the daughter of H-Eosphoros, or Lucifer, firstly Heosphoros and Lucifer are the Greek, and Latin for the same character, and Leuconoe name signifies the white one, and Chione, signifies snow, so in fact they are also different names for the same characters, so we could say, the mother of Philammon was Chione also known as Leuconoe, by Heosphoros also known as Lucifer. In the case of Philonis, she may be the daughter of Cleoboea, [famous in cattle] and as cattle and clouds are so often the same thing, Cleoboea more likely means, bringer of clouds, and if added Heosphoros, maybe taken as 'carrier or bringer of the (white) clouds of dawn, however the name Deion is male? Deione is female and means queen of spoils? But I cannot see the connection.
