She was a Titan, and daughter of Uranus (sky) and Gaia (earth) and she was the sister and wife of her Titan brother Oceanus. But there are two differing views on who were the parents, of the Titans in general, was it, Uranus and Gaia, or Oceanus and Tethys? If we refer to the Egyptian myth of creation, we find that, Seth and his wife Nephthys were the king and queen of all life in the sea, long before the Sky, Atmosphere appeared. Therefore, it might be rightly said that Seth and Nephthys were the parents of all that evolved on the Ocean. Seth and Nephthys were also gods of Freshwater, as was Neptune, Thus, Tethys is also a goddess of freshwater.
