About Nereus

Ancient sea god, who was renamed Poseidon, after the overthrow of Cronos by Zeus, he is referred to as 'the Old Man of the Sea' and was said to be the father of Nereids, female sea nymphs of which there were fifty. Oddly, his wife was one of his own daughters called Doris, he also had one son called Nerites. His powers included the ability to change shape at will, even into land dwelling creatures, like a lion; and the ability to give prophecies. He seems in all respects the same as Proteus. See Proteus for more.
