Was one the two sons of Aetolus and Pronoe, his brother was called Calydon, he married Xanthippe, with whom he produced Sterope, Stratonice, Agenor and Laophonte. He is reported to have founded the town of Pleuron in Aetolia (there are two places anciently by that name, in Aetolia, but they are quite close to each other, it is interesting to note there is a city not far away called anciently 'Calydon'. See place index for more information, and map.) Pleuron also has a shrine in Sparta.
