About Capaneus

Was the son of Hipponous and Astynome, or Laodice, and brother of Periboea, who was the mother of Tydeus via Oeneus. Capaneus was the husband of Evadne and father of Stenelus. He was known for his great strength and stature, but was just as boastful and arrogant, this would be his downfall, for when he tried to scale the walls of Thebes in the battle of the seven champions, having placed his ladder he shouted that not even Zeus himself could stop, and Zeus replied by throwing a thunderbolt at him, killing him instantly.
