The ancient Greek Gods and Goddess contain a wealth of stories and legends, wrapped in Myths which typically provide a story with a morale code designed to influence the reader into behaviour as fitting Greek culture of the era.
In this article, we look at Salmoneus and the myths and legends surrounding Salmoneus, Salmoneus relationship to and with other Greek Gods and Goddess and key events and stories which relate to ancient astrology and the changing seasons.
He was the son of Aeolus and Enarete (virtue) or Iphis, both are listed as bearing children called Salmoneus? However, Iphis is said to be the daughter of the river god Peneus, which makes her a Naiad, thus, she should be incapable of bearing children, except for the purpose of revenge. Salmoneus first married Alcidice, and she bore him a daughter named Tyro. Now, Salmoneus had five brothers, Athamas, Sispphus, Cretheus, Perieres, Deioneus, and three sisters, Alcyone, Perimede, and Canace. It is reported that for some reason not stated that Salmoneus and his brother Sisphus hated each other and Sisphus consulting an oracle found out that if he had a child by his brother's daughter, the child would come to kill Salmoneus.
