Nostradamus Book 6: France Part 1

[ Home ] [ Biography ] [ Books ] [ Centuries ] [ Presages ] [ Locations ] [ Wars ] [ Myths ] [ Dictionary ] [ Quotes ] [ Authors ] [ References ]

The verses herein directly relate to France. Characters who are also connected to France are treated separately: see also, Italy, 3 Brothers, Mohammad, Spain, Queen. Additional verses will be added from time to time, and commentary as fitting based on the feedback received to Nostradamus on France.

Yellow Text indicates a link to a supporting book, century or verse from Nostradamus

We might consider that it is only natural for Nostra' to spend a lot of time, or verses on the future history of France. But it is not for any sentimental reasons, it is simply that France, either as a nation, or because of where it is, has been and it seems will continue to be central either to its own plans or those of others.

Napoleon, who should have been hanged or shot in 1815, if not 1812, was kept alive because Russia in particular, had ambitions to annex it into its Empire.

Germany not only had ambitions upon it in both World Wars, it did, even if only temporarily hold dominion over it.

According to Nostra, whether it be in this half of history, or that the follows, France will both be conquered and conquer. In this 3 part volume (view France">volume 2 or France">volume 3), we will look into verses that enlighten us on both aspects of France's future.

France not only plays a major part on both sides of history's fold, but its inability to act as one nation, brings endless problems. When France acts as a united nation, it is very powerful, but when it argues with itself, it is both vulnerable internally and externally. A headstrong nation, who will ignore even Nostradamus's warnings.

Oh, France, oh France,
You dance and dance,
As Cock and Eagle with Lions prance.
Viva la France, viva la France,
As your, columns are smashed
By the Barbarian's advance.

The Invasions of MARSEILLES.

Marseilles was established by Greek colonists coming from Turkey, commonly known as Phoenicians. It was originally part of the Ligurian coast, or in other words, not traditionally part of Celtic Gaul. Not until the 1480's was Marseille and the areas around it incorporated into France. Strategically it is a very important port, and thus one might think it should be well fortified, indeed it suffered many conquests during its history, and its general defensives have been endlessly added to and, broken. But even so, war changes, it was bombed extensively during the 2nd WW, and held by Germany from 42 to 44. But it seems endlessly true, that people learn nothing from history.

Nostradamus Century 1, Verse 73

France by five, because of negligence assaulted,
Tunis and Algerians goaded by the Persians:
Leon, Seville, Barcelona to fail, (or deceived)
Deprived of the fleet, by the Venetians.

The original has argals, which I have given as Algeria because of its proximity to Tunis, however, Argals could be an anagram for algar-ve, of Portugal; as Seville, Leon and Barcelona are all in Spain. The 4th line may imply the Venetians somehow deprived Spain of its fleet, or that the Venetians had promised to send ships but didn't keep their promise.

R. Cotgrave.
Venitiens. Venetians, citizens of Venice;
Le secours des Venetians (trois jours apres la bataille).
After meat mustard, after death a potion; after judgement is given our counsel is at leisure to attend our cause. Or, the promise of help of the Venetians arrives 3 days after the battle.
[EL. Has Argiels? JH. Argels? Instead of Argals.]

And this, sooner or later, will happen in Marseille at some time in the next 1700 years, bearing in mind that there will be peace for a thousand of those years.

Nostradamus Century 7, Verse 34

In great sorrow, will the French (Gauloise) be
Vain and light hearted, too hasty to trust;
Bread, salt, nor wine, water poisoned no beer,
Even greater captivity, famine, cold and need.

Nostradamus Century 1, Verse 18

Through the discord and negligence of France,
A window of opportunity will be opened to Mohammed,
The land and sea of Siena soaked in blood,
The port of Marseille, overpowered and covered in sails.

A great force of ships will set sail from some part of Africa, it will pass the toe and heel of Italy, and will pretend to attack Italy opposite Corsica; the area that was known roughly as the Republic of Siena and the coast thereof, {that very roughly being the waters between Elba and Isola del Giglio}. France will not see the danger.

The greater part of the fleet, will immediately leave off the feinted assault and will go around Corsica heading straight for Marseille, the first thing the French we see is a sea of ships sails and banners, rapidly descending on the port. But what would lead the French to ignore the danger?

Nostradamus Century 2, Verse 4

From Monaco, up to near Sicily,
The entire coast will remain desolated,
There will remain no suburb, city nor village,
Not emptied and ransacked by the barbarians.

It always happens to somebody else they think, but sooner or later it happens to all of us. The price of liberty is continual vigilance.
But this will not be the only time Marseille will face extreme danger.

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 82

Frejus, Antibes, towns around Nice, they will be extremely devastated by sea (forces) on land:
The locusts on land and sea, winds favourable,
Captured, killed, bound, pillaged without law of war.

Locusts may well eat everything green, but they do not capture, kill, or pillage, or put in trusses people, and they certainly do not rape. Nostra calls these people locusts, metaphorically, they arrive in such great numbers, so quickly, the wind being favourable for the ships and devour everything in their path, and ignore utterly any laws of warfare.

Let me put it more bluntly, these people will kill without any thought of mercy, those they spare will only be spared if they have value as potential slaves, even those spared for that reason will be neglected, most will die before they reach the market place. Everything of value will be taken, what remains will be burned, or blown up, or smashed to pieces, only stray dogs and cats will remain.

Nostradamus Century 10, Verse 13

Under the fodder of livestock (perhaps a cart or like transport),
By them conducted to ventre Helbipolique?
Soldiers hidden, their arms making a noise,
Not far away from the city of Antibes.

Antibes-(G-Antipolis) SE France, between Cannes and Nice. [see Century 3 Verse 82.]

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 88

From Barcelona by sea a great army,
All those of Marseille will tremble with fear,
The Isles seized, all aid by sea closed off,
Your traitor will escape by river, (swim on land).

In the future Spain, will become a great power, whether for good or bad is not for me to say, but there will devastating conflicts with France and other nations.

Nostradamus Century 10, Verse 58

In the time of Mourning the feline monarch
Will make war on the young AEmathien (Macedonian?):
France to shake, the Bark (barque) in jeopardy,
To try Marseille, and the West nonchalant

entretien= entertained, maintained, means, nourishment; also, complement each other with courteous speeches.

Nostradamus Century 10, Verse 24

The captive prince in Italy vanquished,
Will pass Genoa by sea as far as Marseille:
Through great effort of the foreigners upon the vanquished,
Safe from blow of fire, by a barrel of bee's liquor.

Nostradamus Century 5, Verse 54

From the Black Sea, and the great Tartary,
There will be a king who comes to see France (Gaule)
He will strike through Alani, and Armenia, and within Byzantium theft and cruel bloody beatings.

EL. JH. & MR, render 'lairra' as if it was 'laisse' to leave? When it is the same as 'larron', thief etc.?

Nostradamus Century 2, Verse 29

The Easterner will leave his seat,
To pass the Apennine mountains to see France (Gaule):
He will strike through the air, the waters (sea and rivers) and snow,
And each and every one will be struck by his rod.

Of Felix in the country of Arabia,
There will be one born powerful in the Law of Islam (Mohammad):
To vex Spain, to conquer Grenada,
And more so by sea the people of Liguria (Dalmatia).

Nostradamus Century 10, Verse 88

On foot and horse at the second watch,
Making their entry devastating all by the sea,
Under the cover of mist to enter Marseille,
Tears, cries and blood, never were times so bitter.

Nostradamus Century 1, Verse 72

All of the habitants of Marseille will be changed,
The fleeing pursued as far and close to Lyon,
Nalbon and Tholoze by Bordeaux outraged,
Slain & prisoners very nearly a million.

Nostradamus Century 9, Verse 68

From Montelimar will be a little-known Noble,
The evil will come at the junction of the Saone and Rhone rivers [at Lyon.]
Soldiers hidden in the woods on St Lucy day [13th Dec.]
That never was there such a horrible throne.

Montelimar. The Adhemar de Monteil family ruled over the city in the middle ages, thus Nostra refers to it as Mont Aymar. St Lucy, was born in Syracuse, Sicily.

Nostradamus Century 9, Verse 67

From the high mountains, around the Isere river,
100 assembled port and rock of Valence,
From Chateaunerf (sur Isere or de Galure?) Pierrelatte in Donzere (all in the Drome region),
Against the Crest, Roman faith assembled.

Nostradamus Century 9, Verse 69

On the mont of Bailly and the Bresle,
The proud ones of Grenoble will be hidden:
Beyond Lyons and Vienne a great hail will fall on them,
Langouste (lobster?) on land, not a 3rd of them will remain.

Grenoble is located where the Drac joins the Isere River. Vienne is located 20 miles south of Lyon on the Rhone River.

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 99

In the grassy fields of Alleins and Vernegues,
Of the massif of Luberon, (in central Provence, S-France.) not far from the Durance river;
The conflict between the two sides will be very sharp,
Mesopotamia will be defeated in France.

Alleins and Vernegues, are small villages; there is a lot of heavy forestation, over the area in general.

Nostradamus Century 4, Verse 12

The greater army will be routed and put to flight,
It will not be pursued much beyond (the battlefield;
The army regroups but its legions (numbers) reduced,
Then they will be chased out from all of France.

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 79

The chain by order, fatal and Eternal'
By natural consequence will come to turn:
The chain of port of Marseille will be broken,
The city taken, by enemies again & again.

I suspect if Marseilles does not have a chain barrier protecting the access to the port that it will have in the future. These chains, sometimes with nets, were used in the Second World War, if not previously to hamper shipping and enemy submarines. [see eBook 1. March of the Antichrists; page 23-4 for a better explanation of the chain of time.]

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 86

The chief of Ausonia (S. Italy) will undertake a journey to Spain,
He will take a rest, or make an arrest at Marseille:
Before his death, he will languish a long time,
After his death one will see a very great miracle. [see book 4 for more insight.]

Nostradamus Century 7, Verse 22

The citizens of Mesopotamia,
Angry with their friends of Taraconne:
Games, rites, feasts, all people nonchalant, (drowsy -unaware, taken no interest in what is going on.) the Vicar at Rhone, city overcome by those from Ausonia (Italy).

Taraconne, is a bastardised to rhyme with Asone: I suspect Tarascon in Provence, near the Pyrenees? May have connection to Spain?

Nostradamus Century 8, Verse 62

Then one will see the saintly temple robbed,
The greatest ones of Rhone profaning the sacred things:
Through them will be born a wide spreading plague,
The unjust king will not condemn them.

Nostradamus Century 7, Verse 2

By Mars opened, Arles will give battle,
At night, the soldiers will be astonished:
Black, white concealing blue (inde-indigo) on the land,
Under the false shadow traitors seen and heard.

Nostradamus Century 2, Verse 99

Roman territories as foretold by the seer,
Will be by the French, greatly afflicted;
But the Celtic nation will come to regret the hour,
By the North-East wind, the fleet pushed far too far.

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 23

If France, passes beyond the Ligurian sea,
You will see yourselves enclosed in the sea and Islands,
Mohammed against, more so the Adriatic Sea,
Of horses and Asses, you will gnaw the bones.

Nostradamus Century 2, Verse 86

The fleet wrecked near the waters of the Adriatic,
The land trembles, tossed by the air and placed on the land [ the fleet by wind, smashed against the rocks and beached on the shores.]
Egypt shakes, as the power of Mohamed grows,
The Herald surrenders himself, and is forced to speak.

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 86

French {Gauloise] fleet do not go anywhere near Corseigne,
Even less Sardinia, you will repent it:
Every one of you will perish, vainly expecting the aid of grogne,
To swim in blood, captive, for not believing me.

Corseigne. All Authors render it simply Corsica; but it is of 2 words. Corse= Corsica, and seigne, =bloodletting.

Grogne. EL. JH. Have cape? MR. has grudging? Anyway if it is groigne-r, actions of, or pigs snout-nose, {not used in French now}. I would suspect the, half pig-man, who will be powerful, perhaps in Rome, or Italy, but we have yet to look into this man, who is mentioned in several verses. However, the word Grogne in French=grumble?

You have to give Nostra credit, for he warns France on several occasions to avoid certain situations, not that they will take a blind bit of notice.

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 24

Of the enterprise, great confusion,
Loss of people and treasure innumerable,
You must not repeat such efforts.

In view of the renderings of the original French of line 4, by J.H. E.L. & N.R. of C 3 v 24; it is necessary to discuss a few points. There seems to be confusion over the words Nostra used. All three render the line,

'France, a mon dire fais que sois [E.L. has sais.] recordable.

J.H. & E.L. translate,

France, let my words be remembered.

M.R. as so often as often goes off into hypo-space, with,

'France, in my view, must only do what is worthy of record?'

Yet 'fais', signifies, a bundle. 'sois' =I cannot remember or find.

Whether the fault lies with the printer, or was deliberately done by Nostra is not obvious.

The original words should have been,

'France, a` mon dire sais que fois recordable'.

Sais, being a vb, of Savoir, to know, be known, and 'fois' = time.

Thus, we read,

'France, let my words be known and remembered in time.'

Somehow, I doubt whether Nostra's words warning will be heeded; otherwise they would not make such a mistake the first time around.

The French fleet in question will embark on an expedition to conquer Italy and Rome. but a great storm brought by the North-East winds will blow them off course. The forces of Mohammad will keep them from escaping, and stormy seas will provide few windows for setting sail. There trapped on the islands they will very soon face famine; forced to eat their cavalry horses and pack asses, then to gnaw on the bones.

Nostradamus Century 4, Verse 92

The head of the valiant captain cut off, it will be tossed, before his adversary;
His body hanging from the ships Antennae,
Confused he flees by rowing against the wind.

Nostradamus Century 2, Verse 2

The blue head will cause to the white head as much evil as France has done them good:
Dead, or death, at, or, of antheve? Great one hanging from the branch,
When (the ship) captured by his own, the king will ask how many?

[EL. Has antenne- sail yard?]

Nostradamus Century 4, Verse 91

The French (Gaulois) Duke forced to fight a duel,
The ship Mellele will not approach Monaco;
Wrongly accused, kept in perpetual prison,
Before he dies his son will attempt to take the throne.

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 55

In the year, the one-eyed king will reign in France,
The court-government will be very loathsome and seditious,
The great one of Blois will murder his friend,
The realm put in evil, double jeopardy.

Nostradamus Century 9, Verse 1

Within the house of the translator of Bourc,
There will be letters found on the table;
One-eyed, red, white, grey headed, will hold the course,
Which will be changed by a new constable,

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 38

The French people and foreign nation,
Beyond the mountains, slayed, pierced and annihilated,
The weather against them, and nearing the time of vintage,
The Lords in agreement to reinstate the old laws.

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 43

People from around the area of Tarn, Lot, and Garonne,
Be wary of crossing the Apennine mountains,
Your tomb will be near Rome and Ancona,
The black frizzled bearded one will set up a monument to honour his victory.

Nostradamus Century 4, Verse 95

The realm will be left to 2, but they will not remain allies for very long,
3years 7months later they will make war against each other;
The 2 vestals against the rebellion,
In armenique (Armenia), the younger victorious.

Nostradamus Century 2, Verse 34

From senseless anger to furious combat,
the two brothers to drawing swords at the table, will be the cause;
separated, one oddly wounded,
the proud duel will come to harm France.

Nostradamus Century 2, Verse 34

The French is difficult in this verse. These two brothers are of the same belief, and come to argue over petty interpretations of religious law. It is a senseless, ridiculous situation, that spirals out of all control. Both having great armies and strong fortresses a bloody civil war breaks out that drags almost all of France into its clutches. Which will provide opportunities to the very enemies they were previously allied against.

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 98

So, strong will be the contention between the two royal brothers that they will enter into such deadly war,
Each one occupying fortified places,
Their great quarrel will life and realm consume.

Nostradamus Century 6, Verse 47

Between 2 mountains, 2 great ones assembled,
Will abandon their secret quarrel;
Brussels and Dole (Jura region) by those of Langres overcome,
For the malicious execution of their plague.

Nostradamus Century 4, Verse 42

Geneva and Langres (F) through those of Chartres (F) and Dole (F) and by those of Grenoble (F) captive at Montelimar (F),
Seyssel, (France) Lausanne, (Swiss) through fraudulent deceit,
They will betray them for 60 marks of gold.

Nostradamus Century 1, Verse 22

That which will live and yet not have any sense, (or, and yet not make any sense), will come to fatally injure itself through deceit:
At Autun, Chalon, Langres and the 2 Sens,
Hail and ice will cause great evils.

It requires lateral thinking? A thing, not a person: reminds me of the European Union...

Nostradamus Century 5, Verse 82

At the conclusion of peace treaty outside the fortress,
He who was put to despair will not leave the place:
When those of Arbois, of Langres, go against Bresse,
To see in the (Jura) mounts of Dole the enemy ambushed.

As with the previous verse (6-47) Nostra has Dolle, while there is a Dolle in Germany, it makes little sense for it to be that place. Dole, would make more sense in both cases.

Nostradamus Century 4, Verse 94

The 2 great brothers will be chased out of Spain,
The elder one overcome below the Pyrenees:
Reddened sea, Rhone, blood of the Leman (Swiss) and Germans,
Narbon, Blyterre, by Agath-Agde contaminated.

Nostradamus Century 9, Verse 64

The Macedonian (Aemathon) to Cross the Pyrenees,
In Mars (March) Narbon-ne will offer no resistance:
By land and sea, he will carry out his great intrigue,
The Cap (Cappe) will not have any safe land to reside in.

Nostradamus Century 8, Verse 21

Three ships will enter the port of Agde,
Notwithstanding the infection, Plague and not faith,
Passing the bridge, it will carry off millions,
Resistance at the bridge broken by a third.

A very odd verse in terms of words and grammar? EL. JH. MR. all have 'portant l'infect,' start of line 2, I see 'pourtant' in the original, which does not signify, carrying as all 3 have, but, notwithstanding, yet, yet for all that, howsoever. The plague the ships bring will kill millions, rather than cause them to be taken away. In line 4, it is difficult to assess whether a third of the defenders are killed or infected, or a third party takes the bridge?

It seems plague spread by infected people will be used as a deadly weapon many times in the future.

Agde, which Nostra sometimes refers to as Agath, is an old name 'Agathe Tyche,' = Good Fortune; not so good this case though. Agathe was settled by Phoceans from Marseille in the 5th century BC, and Agde's inhabitants are known as 'Agathois'.

Nostradamus Century 4, Verse 20

Peace, liberty, for a long time the place will praise,
Throughout the realm, the Fleur-de-lis deserted:
Body in the water washed up on land,
Waiting in vain for the hour of burial.

Nostradamus Century 4, Verse 2

Through death, France to mount an expedition, fleet by sea others Cross the Pyrenees,
Spain in turmoil, people and military on the move,
Some of greatest Ladies led away to France. [c 3 v 8.]

As usual previous Authors, have consigned this verse to the history books. Indeed, they have consigned almost every verse to past events. Yet we have not even reached the half way point in the history Nostra is describing.

A great many of these verses are about events well over a 1000years in the future. Nostra was not concerned with petty, insignificant quarrels, that brew up like a storm in a teacup. If Nostra was to write of every war that had occurred in Europe, Africa, Asia and more since 1555, till even 2000AD, he would need 10,000 verses if not 50,000? Verses.

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 8

The Cimbri allied with their neighbours
Will depopulate almost all of Spain:
Peoples gathered in Guienne and Limousin
Will be in league, and will join them.

See the Nostradamus Book on Spain for greater explanation.

Nostradamus Century 2, Verse 59

The French (Gauloise) fleet with the support of the great guard,
From the great Neptune, and his trident soldiers,
Provence reddened to sustain the great band,
More war at Narbonne, through missiles and rockets.

Provence rapped, bare red earth, everything edible removed, or reddened with blood, or both.

Nostradamus Century 7, Verse 3

After the naval victory of France,
The Barcelonans, Saillimons, the Phocens:
Golden ivy, 'l' enclume serre' within 'la balle,'
those of Ptolon, to the fraud will consent.

Difficult one? 'enclume', signifies, an anvil. (body wise, a little bone in the ear, see Cotgrave] consider,

'couche entre l'enclume, & les marteaux.' Lodged between two extreme dangers, or difficulties; perplexed, or afflicted whichever way one turns; we say, between a rock and a hard place. Or,

'A l'enclume le Marteau.'

A quarrelling, mutinous, or litigious fellow should be matched with one that's worse than himself; or, a hard heart needs hammering.

'serr/e.' closed, compacted, contracted, thrust up together, clapped or put near to; restrained; hard pressed or wrung, shut or bound up together.

'balle', ball, or even bail.

'saillimons?' sailli-e, = come out, issued forth; also, leaped on. 'mon,' as a conjunction, or otherwise it is used as an enforcement of an affirmation. It might read the Barcelonans called out? Or as issue from, but who knows? Or sailor-man? or even priests? The Phoceans, could signify those of Marseille, but the Phoenicians settled all over the place, they might, the Punic-barbarians?'.

Nostradamus Century 2, Verse 69

The French (Gauloise) king through the Celtic right,
Seeing the discord of the great monarchy: upon the 3 parts, will cause his Sceptre to flourish,
Against the Cappe, of the great hierarchy.

Nostradamus Century 1, Verse 31

The duration of the wars in France (Gaule)
Will last way beyond the years of the monarch of Castulon;
Victory undecided will crown 3 great ones,
The Eagle, the Cock, Moon, Lion, Sun in its tent.

Castulon, seek, Century 1, Verse 93.

Nostradamus Century 7, Verse 25

Because of the long war the entire army exhausted,
money [to pay them];
In place of gold and silver, (cuir=hide, skin, leather.) on leather they will come to coin, or curse-r,
French brass, siege, crescent of the moon.

Nostradamus Century 1, Verse 34

The bird of prey flying to the left side,
Before the conflict begins the French (Francois) will prepare:
The weaker ones will take it as good omen, the other as sinister ploy.

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 84

The great city will be thoroughly desolated,
Not a single inhabitant will remain:
Wall, males & females, temple and Virgin violated,
By sword, fire, plague and cannon the people to die?

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 46

By the heavens over Lyon we are warned,
Through clear signs and fixed Star,
Of its sudden change as it approaches the age,
Neither for its good, nor its evil.

Nostradamus Century 8, Verse 38

The king of Blois in Avignon will reign,
As in times past the people emonopolle
Within Rhone he will cause the walls to bathe,
Until the 5th last nearest of Nolle?

This verse should be to read in conjunction with Century 8, Verse 52, 53 and 61.]

The Authors thoughts on the word, emonopolle, are a bafflement to me, El, has, bloody. JH, has, bloodthirsty. MR. seems to render it, under one ruler? As if the word had relationship to a monopoly?

I am inclined to, purged of corruption, from, emon-de, cleansed, purged, pruned, weeded, etc. and pollu, polluted, defiled, corrupted, etc.

Nolle, in French, signifies a fare due for passage in a ship, or for freight landed or loaded.

I suspect this king will cause the walls of Rhone to fall into the river?

Nostradamus Century 8, Verse 52

The king of Blois in Avignon will reign,
From Amboise and semer he will come along the river Indre,
Claw at Poitiers the saintly wings to ruin,
Before Boni (happy-rich?).

Amboise is very roughly halfway between Tours and Blois on the Loire: the Indre joins the Loire roughly at the same distance on the other side of Tours. Poitiers lies roughly below that junction, at about the same distance as Tours is from Blois. Last line ends abruptly?

There is something very odd about this verse, in the original it seems tied to Century 8, Verse 53?

I do not see it anywhere else, but we see,

'Devant Boni. Century 8, Verse 53.

Dedans Bolongne

It cannot be to save paper that this has happened, nor does it help align the pages?

Nostradamus Century 9, Verse 21

At the High temple of Blois and St Salonne [now the Cathedral of St Louis of Blois, was before becoming a Cathedral, a collegiate church dedicated to St Solenne], by night at the Loire bridge, Prelate, the king destroys him. Curseur -cursive (joint-joined) victory at the marsh or pond of the lone-? Bastardised to rhyme with Salonne. From that place the prelacy of whites limited. [see in verse list for more info on words.]

Nostradamus Century 9, Verse 23

The young one playing with a new toy under the Arbour, from high on the middle of the roof, (something falls) upon his head,
The father the king at the temple of St Salenne (Blois cathedral),
Consecrating the sacrificial smoke of the feast.

Nostradamus Century 8, Verse 53

Within Boulogne he will want to wash away his faults,
He will not be able to in the temple of the Sun:
He will fly away performing mighty deeds,
Never was there his equal in the Hierarchy.

Nostradamus Century 8, Verse 61

Never by the light of day,
Will he attain the Sceptre bearing sign: Until all his sieges are finished and laid to rest,
Bearing to the Cock the gift of T A C armifere, arms- weapons?

Fere = a wild beast. Feri=hit, strike, wound, hurt? More input needed, TAC, CAT, ACT? The answer may lie with the character called the Cock, who is either a good, or a very, very bad person?

Nostradamus Century 9, Verse 24

From the palace on the rock via the windows,
2 little royal ones will be abducted:
To pass Aurelle (Aureliana Civitas, Orleans), Luthece (Lutetia Parisiorum= Paris), Denis cloistres (=abbey, Proiry, religious house) (according to history, St Denis brought Christianity to Paris in the mid 3rdcentury AD, and became the 1st bishop of Paris. He was later beheaded for refusing to recant his beliefs on a hill now known as Montmartre, from Mons Martyrum =mountain of Martyrs. The Basilica of St Denis was built there and it became the burial place of French kings. It is a large medieval Abbey- church, in the city of St Denis, now a northern suburb of Paris.) a nun, mallods? Swallowing verts-(green apples) drowned? [odd ending, more input needed, my mind's eye cast upon the still water, brings up the vision of the young ones tricked into playing a game of pluck the apple from the water.] [mal -lods; lods=lodes=a Breton, thus perhaps 'evil Bretons' ones from Brittany?]

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 93

In Avignon the chief of the whole Empire,
Will make camp, because Paris is desolated and abandoned:
The Tricast will hold back the Annibalique hatred,
Lyon, because of the change, will be evilly consoled.

JH. Oddly has MEL, in line 4, EL, and I, see Mal, evil, not sweet. The tricast are 3, 3 Brothers perhaps, or 3 temporal kings or princes? Who will hold off the advances of the barbarians. But there is a much more sinister understanding obtainable.

Nostradamus Century 2, Verse 83

The 'gros trafic' of the great Lyon changed,
The greater part turns into pristine ruin,
Prey to the soldiers to pillage vendang/e,
Through the Jura mountains, sweating, burning mists.

Lyon was historically known for its production and weaving of Silk. Today, banking, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, biotech and software, esp. game orientated. However, I have a gut feeling that this may not be the case in the future.

Vendange, signifies grape harvest, vintage, wine making or the season when it is carried out.

It is difficult to see it becoming a major grape or wine production centre.

In line 4 'sueve bruine.' EL. Renders it Suevia drizzle, and adds in notes Switzerland. JH. Just gives Switzerland [a] misty rain: and MR, has, mist on the Jura and Swiss mountains???

However, sueu,v-e-r, it signifies, sweating, and, bruine, a hot mist that blasts, or burns plants.

The fact that Lyon turns for the greater part into pristine ruins, indicates that many of the inhabitants leave or disappear for other reasons than conflict. The Mary Celeste syndrome? I see in my mind's eye that their gross traffic, maybe in living things not goods, and certainly not wine. [see C 3 v 12.]

Nostradamus Century 9, Verse 70

Sharp weapons hidden in the torches,
Within Lyon, on the day of Sacrament,
Those from Vienne will all be hacked to death,
By the Latin cantons, Mascon (Macon) does not lie.

There is a Vienne in the region of Limousin, France, or perhaps they have come from Vienna? I suspect from the words that axes are the concealed weapons, a long-handled axe, with rags rapped around it would easily pass for a burning torch: whether they have been warned by the people of Macon, or by a person named Mascon, who knows?

Nostradamus Century 2, Verse 85

The old plain beard (barbe) under severe restrictions,
At Lyon, placed upon the Celtic Eagle,
The small (young) great one preservers too far,
Noise of arms in the sky, the sea of Liguria red with blood.

Nostradamus Century 8, Verse 3

At the strong chateau of the Vigilanne (watchers- vigilant ones- spies) an Resuiers (followers- dreamers- fools),
The younger one of Nancy will be confined:
Within Turin they will burn the first ones (those in power),
Then when by grief (mourning - bereavement), Lyon will be traumatised (transi- in a trance, stunned?).

Nostradamus Century 5, Verse 54

Of a name not ever held by a king of France (Gaulois),
Never was there such a terrifying thunderbolt,
Italy, Spain and the English trembling,
One greatly attentive to foreign women.

Napoleon

Nostradamus Century 1, Verse 78

To the old chief will be born a witless heir,
Degenerate in understanding and in arms:
The chef of France by his sister dreaded.
Fields divided, conceded to the soldiers.

3 words here. Hebet/e. dull, sottish, senseless, a blockhead, or 'thick as brick' as we might say.

Redout/e. feared, dreaded, awed by.

Savoir. To know, knowledge, as our Savvy, understanding, intelligence.

His sister may be such, or England.

Nostradamus Century 3, Verse 56

Montauban, Nimes, Avignon and Beziers,
Plague, hail and thunder at the end of mars:
Of Paris, bridge- pont, Lyon wall, Montpellier,
After 600, 7 score, 3 pairs?

line 2, maybe, to end, or at the end of war?

Nostradamus Century 5, Verse 58

By the aqueduct of Uzes (uticense) over the river Gard (Gardon, which Nostra has as Gardoing, to rhyme with, poing. The aqueduct is called 'Pont de Gard'.)
Through the forest and inaccessible mountain,
Enemy on the bridge will cut the fist,
The chief of Nimes (Nemans) who will be very cruel.

Nemans- Nemausus, local Celtic god, of the Volcae, original name of Nimes.

Nostradamus Century 5, Verse 30

All around the great city,
Soldiers camped in fields and villages,
For making the assault on Paris, incited by Rome,
Then on the pontiff, there will be great pillage.

I have placed this verse in book 4, Italy & Rome, because the French of line 2, makes seem possible, that it is Rome, and the Vatican which is being attacked?

Nostradamus Century , Verse

From Bourg-la-Reine they will come straight from Chartres,
And pause near the bridge of Anthony;
7 for the peace, deceitful as the devil,
By the army, Paris enclosed, they will make entry.

Martres, bastardised for rhyme, martin, a name of the devil's saint. They will come deceitfully to negotiate peace.

Nostradamus Century 2, Verse 49

The councillors of the first monopoly,
The conquerors seduced to Malta:
Rhodes and Byzantium exposing their pole for them,
On land will fail, the pursuers fleeing.
